Hair and The City!

Everyone has their hair envies, its not just us here at Bloomsbury, right? Well speaking for myself, I certainly do! Watching some repeats of Sex and the City, is it any wonder that we are just simply in awe of Sarah Jessica Parker and her luscious head of hair? SJP never disappoints with her style – have a look at some of our favourite fashionistas styles:

Starting with the basics, Sarah Jessica knows how to keep it simple with swagger. Attending an awards ceremony, Sarah Jess let her outfit do the talking while keeping her hair in control by keeping it silky smooth and straight -

her trademark middle parting allowed the hair to frame her face, while keeping it graduated and shorter at the front allowed a more chic edge to the look.

Not only can Ms Parker pull of the simple look, but SJP has the ability to work an edgier, more daring style too. On a magazine shoot, Sarah Jessica sported a cropped and curled look -

– showing that playing with scissors can actually pay off!

Sarah Jessica Parker has got to be the only lady I know that can work roots. The usually lazy, messy, and albeit tacky outcome of visiting the blonde side portrays a rather negative connotation in a style critics mind, however SJP doesn’t let us down even when she cant be bothered!

Finally, lets examine Parkers efforts in her up-do’s. adopting a more sophisticated look, Sarah Jessica proves she is a girl after our own hearts when donning a hair piece for a recent television appearance.

Long hair in the cold never gets old!

So last week we at Bloomsbury told you about the latest fashion do for this winter – short hair – but we didn’t go too much into what to do if you’re blessed with longer locks this season – so here we go!

Most importantly, we have taken a look at all the fashion greats and found that the attention is always being drawn to the centre. Dolce and Gabanna, Gucci, Coco Chanel and Dior (to name a few) have all expressed their love of the middle parting this season, to add the edge to winter coats and cosy knits, keeping any style simple but always chic!

While the ‘half – up’ look may seemed to have disappeared with Tamagotchis and Pogo Sticks, winter 2011 welcomes back the look with open arms! Take inspiration from Nina Ricci and Max Mara to add the edge to the style by back-combing the top section of your hair before securing it up, as the seasons look is all about ‘messy-chic’ – finally – bed hair pays off!

Another must have look for this season is the plait. We at Bloomsbury of London love the plait, as its versatility makes the plait the perfect style for any occasion. While Lanvin and Cacharel keep it simple, have a look at how Kenzo kept the plait funky with a looped style for the trendy turn.

Another timeless style for long hair is the ponytail. While it can be kept easy and simple or completely glammed up, the ponytail will never go out of fashion! Take it from Prada, who kept it neat and elegant with a combed-back fringe and low pony, or Gucci, who slightly elevated the pony with a ‘wrap around’ finish, a ponytail will never let you down!

So, no matter if your down, half up, or fully styled, long hair will not be coming up short this winter!

As much as I hate to say it, the gloomiest, most unwelcome time of year has come around again. While I’m all for the wardrobe renovation and snugly jumpers, I’m not so keen on the runny noses and freezing hands! However, with the arrival of winter comes the arrival of a new season of hair styles – here we go!

The best news is, winter 2011/2012 is definitely the season of the short hair – a look than anyone can achieve! Not having to wait for months for hair growth, this winter welcomes in choppy haircuts and pixie crops with a sassy twist.

Whether you’re rushed off your feet or have some extra time on your hands, take some tips from the catwalk and find the perfect short style for you. For example, Cacheral and Balmain show how to keep messy hair in style with some ruffled, cropped do’s -

while Oscar de la Renta and Hermes understand that some ladies prefer to silk the hair down in a side parting with some gel to tame the fly-aways –

so always do your research!

For those who aren’t as open to the chop as others, Isabel Marant has the answer for you.

Showing the ‘mid-cut’, Marant kept the girly flair to the boyish cut by keeping the hair slightly longer but less tame, to keep the element of attitude to the look.

If you prefer to keep the length to your hair, the catwalk also has the answers for you. Take inspiration from the most well loved names in fashion and adopt the bun – the perfect up-do for any occasion! Dolce and Gabanna show how to keep it simple in a low, messy bun with a wind-swept front appearance, while Carolina Herrera show how to keep the low bun in tact with extra grips and gel for a more structured look.

Badgley Mischka go all out on the bun with a low down style with sides braided back and a jewelled parting for that extra special occasion, while Chanel caters for those of us not brave enough to keep the face bare by showing how to keep some hair out of the bun but keep it sweet with the side- style.
