Pretty plaits are back!

Pretty plaits are back!

As you all know, I am a slave to the plait! Whether it be Nanny Pat’s yummy sausage version or the more stylish hairstyle, I fall for the plait every time. This isn’t my first entry dedicated to the style, but I have done sufficient research into how Autumn / Winter 2011 is modernising the plait and implementing it into your every day look for a fresh winter style!

While the plait has been appearing all over all of the catwalks lately, the most common way to wear it has to be loosely. The look crept up in many shows during Fashion week, and there are many ways to adapt the low look to suit you. Whether you wear the plait at a side or in the centre, the chilled out chic style suits those who have to dash or have some time on their hands.

Another adaptation of the pretty plait is the ‘milkmaid’ look. This is when the hair is up and secured with a plait flowing across the front of the head, gripped in at the side. Unfortunately this look is much easier to achieve on those with longer hair, but don’t fret my short hair-ed friends! You can also maintain the milkmaid look, just keep your hair down with a plait across the front to adopt the cute style.

Someone who really impressed me by simultaneously using both looks during his show was John Rocha. You would think that a ‘milkmaid-low-messy-neat-pretty-plait’ would be too much, but by keeping it simple with thin braids, Rocha wowed his audience. To avoid any tangles and knots, Rocha made sure his girls had their hair divided into different sized braids with one plait swept across the models’ foreheads for a tiara meets hair band style. What a winner!

Finally, let’s talk about Toni and Guy. Styling the Todd Lynn girls, Toni and Guy used low ponytails to keep in with this season’s trend, the style icons parted the hair in the middle and created a wide plait throughout the parting to build a chic but sophisticated and edgy finish.

So, I hope I have provided you with enough options for your plait this season – I certainly have mine ready!
